This is one of 3 magnets that I produced in 3D Studio Max for Stangenes and E2Media. One of my favorite things about this kind of illustration is that I get to learn something new, in this case the properties of really big and powerful electro magnets.

This magnet is a special foil design, liquid cooled through the copper plates sandwiched in between the foil rolls. Foil electromagnets are nice because holes can be bored through the foil rolls without breaking the electric cirquit or changing the parameters of the magnetic field significantly. The image was used in a product brochure which I also designed (see the Design section for full layout).
